Class A/B mishaps are up 10% as maintainer losses grow. Ultraview fills the gap with automated, expert-level aircraft inspections.
Why it mattersUltraview has developed a fully autonomous drone-enabled software platform automating the aircraft visual inspection process for commercial aviation, DoD, and space. Founded in 2023, Ultraview AI’s mission is to maintain the safety of flight. Our team is comprised of AI & Robotics experts, Industry veterans, and defense contracting specialists aligning us to our mission and bringing Automated Aircraft Inspections to the mainstream in maintenance. The warfighter and USAF have shown an urgent need as 75 maintenance-related Class A&B mishaps occurred in FY23, a 10% increase of the trailing 5-year average. Our product is developed in-house with NDAA-compliant COTS hardware and utilizes a sensor package that was decided upon with aircraft OEMs to yield the best results. Our product is designed to be portable and work on- or off-network, and indoors or outdoors for operation in any environment at a moment's notice. Since Ultraview owns the hardware design, modifications needed to handle additional capabilities can be undertaken at the direction of our customers much faster than utilizing a 3rd party drone.
About
The U.S. military operates a diverse fleet of aircraft, each requiring specialized tools and personnel for inspection. The Air Force is losing senior maintainers at a 12% annual rate, increasing pressure on remaining staff and contributing to a five-year high in Class A/B maintenance-related mishaps. Ultraview’s autonomous drone platform performs full airframe inspections 80% faster than manual methods. It replaces clipboard walkarounds with high-res imagery, structured data capture, and automated reporting. Deployments include Ascent Aviation Services for heavy and line maintenance. Warner Robins AFB allocated FY27 O&M funds and issued a Phase II customer memo for Ultraview operations starting September 2025 on the C-5, C-17, KC-130, and F-15. Field-tested in commercial and defense settings, Ultraview delivers inspection-grade outputs and integrates into live MRO workflows. Our patented platform uses LiDAR-based SLAM and ARK Flow for precise, GPS-denied navigation. It is fully self-contained and operates indoors or on flight lines with no added infrastructure. We engage TPOCs directly, leverage SBIR Phase II via AFWERX, and connect with users through Ignite and Tradewinds to streamline procurement. Ultraview supports defense and commercial aviation, UAM, and spaceport operations. It’s compatible with platforms from F-15s to A320s. CEO Colby Harvey (ex-Google, RocketLab), COO Jack Medellin (ex-Lockheed F-35), and CPO Matt Kammerait (ex-AAR). Boeing and Near Earth Autonomy lack a proven, autonomous product. Ultraview is field-validated, easy to operate, and deployable with no setup. Primary User Fleet maintenance leads, QA managers, and line chiefs. User-Critical Problem Tech shortages and manual methods slow readiness. Ultraview restores speed, accuracy, and consistency to inspection workflows.
